Final Post

My entrepreneurial idea is to create a website that has information about different events going on all around the world. This website would allow someone to choose their location, the maximum distance they would travel to go to an event, and the type of event they are looking for. By including all this information it would narrow the results so that the user doesn’t have to scroll through a million events that do not relate to what they are looking for. This website would not only be helpful when someone is home but also if they are going on a trip and want to plan their trip and what events they want to attend.
This website will not only have information about events going on but it will also allow the user to purchase tickets to the events while still using this one website. This part of the website makes it more convenient for the user so they don’t have to then search the Internet to find the tickets. This is also good for the events because I think it will increase the attendance and amount of people buying tickets. Although people may see on a website an event they want to attend it is very common that they won’t pursue the idea of trying to find a place to purchase the tickets.
Along with all the information about future events and the ability to purchase tickets there will also be a section of the website that allows people to post pictures and comments about past events. People can then see pictures and read about the event from the year which will assist them in determining if they want to attend the event that year. This will be monitored everyday so that nothing is inappropriate on the website.
Since I hope to become an event planner when I graduate I think that this is a great idea. It would also be a good thing for event planners to get their names out in the public and for people to see their work and therefore get more business. Also, if someone is looking to host a party and wants to do research about event planners, locations, caterers, etc. This website has all the information in one place so that it is easier for them to find what they are looking for.
This project has helped me see how what I learned in class can be applied to a website and learn about how a website is created and what is needed to keep it running. By having weekly blog posts about different topics I was able to develop my project in more detail and consider every detail and necessity that I would need to run my website. For example, when learning about identity theft I was able to apply what I learned about computer security to my website so that when people use credit cards to purchase tickets they will not have to worry about their information being stolen.
I think that this website has potential to be created and used all around the world. This website could be very helpful to all different kinds of people and could become a very popular and widely used website. However, this website would have to be monitored and updated every day throughout the day and would require someone to manage it.

Week 7- operating systems

In lecture this week we learned about operating systems. There are four main operating systems, Windows (Microsoft) , Unix (AT&T), Mac OS (apple) , and Linux. Operating systems manage hardware and software resources including: the processor, memory allocation, disk space, all input and output devices. It provides a way for software applications to work with the hardware without having to know details. For example, saving a file in a program.

An open source software is a source code published and made available to the public who can copy, modify, and redistribute without paying royalties or fees. It allows other people to build on the program. An example of an open source is an Android because it is a google product and the programs do not have to be approved by google. However, an I Phone is not an open source because in order to add an application it has to be approved by apple.

This relates to my new website, "Events Where You Are" in many ways. First, in order to be created and used one must have an operating system that works well. Next, it will be an open source website so that people can add information about events and pictures from the events that they attended. This information will not need to be approved, however, it will be monitored to make sure that there is nothing on the website that should not be there.

Week 6, Lecture 2- Computer Forensics and Identity Theft

This week in lecture we learned about identity theft. The most common people at risk for identity theft include 18-29 year olds, as they account for almost 30%. Identity theft can be avoided many ways, including: not using debit cards, never disclosing your Social Security Number, do not provide bank account or credit and info, check all your monthly statements carefully to look for out of place activity, and lastly, minimize what is in your wallet.
As a business owner and being in the age range most at risk I need to be safe and watch out for identity theft. Also, higher education is the most commonly reached data. It is the prime target and can go unnoticed for years.
For this website I will make sure that when my costumers have to put in their credit card information it is safe and used for only what they are purchasing. Using the actual website is free, but if someone wishes to purchase tickets for upcoming events they must enter a credit card information. I will not ask for any unnecessary information and make sure that my system and website are secure.

Week 5- ASCII and Unicode

This week in class we learned about the American Standard Code for Information Interchange or ASCII and the Unicode. ASCII is a character-encoding scheme that only has about 128 values, unlike the Unicode that has more than 100,000 characters. The Unicode includes ASCII and is considered to be the universal character set around the world.
Unicode is the dominant scheme for storage of text and internal processing. Every computer and operating system uses this code and therefore can not operate without it. This website would use this code to be created and operated.
When storing information in a computer there are many different prefixes that are used depending on the size of the storage needed. This blog allows the user 3 GB, which stands for gigabyte. This website would need to have a large amount of storage space in order to continue to add information, pictures, and videos from different events.

Week 4- Megapixels and RFID Readers

This week in class we discussed megapixels. A megapixel is equal to one million pixels,tile-like picture elements that make up digital camera images. The more pixels, the higher the image resolution.

Megapixels will be used in the website, "Events Where You Are", because there will be pictures provided on the website from the events. The digital cameras used at the event will be high tech cameras with a very high image resolution, causing the pictures to have a lot of pixels. Since they have a high resolution the pictures will be very good quality, which is important so that people can view them without difficulty.

Also, during class we discussed RFID's. Specifically for events the one that is the most useful would be an RFID interrogator, also known as the Barcode scanner or a reader. This would be used to scan tickets that people have to get into the events. These tickets would be available to purchase on this website. This would speed up the process of entering events, and would replace having to look through a guest list.

Excel- how can it help?

Excel is a great way to keep track of business transactions, different people using the website, how the website is used, and a lot more! For this website i would use excel to keep track of different data so that i know what part of the website is used the most and what isn't. This would help me fix different kinks in the program and make it so that it is useful for all.

Today, in class we also learned about hexadecimal, this would help me with the creation of my website because it is the way that colors are created on a website. I would use different combinations to make the perfect colors that make the website easy for everyone to access.

Social Networking-How is this website similar to Twitter?

How is this website similar to twitter one might ask? This website is similar to twitter in many ways, as it is a different kind of social networking website. This website is a social networking website because it is used to not only tell people what events are going on, but also so people can read about and see pictures from previous events.

This Events Around the World Website can also be followed on twitter and used for marketing purposes. This will help the website be found and used everyday all around the world. Although, it is similar to twitter is is very different as it is specific to just events.

Social Networking is a growing trend all around the world. I think this website would help with the event industry to help promote these different kinds of events. Twitter, facebook, and Linkedin are all some examples of social networking websites and by adding this website to the list will take this trend to a whole new level.

What Events Are Going on Where You Are

There are many different events going on everyday and everywhere around the world. This website, "Events Around the World", will help you find out what kind of events are going on where you are, if you are on vacation or just at home. After the events happen you can go on the website to see pictures and hear about how the event was if you couldn't make it.

Technolgy is improving everyday and there mobile phones are becoming more and more advanced. This website can be set up so that updates are sent to your phone everyday and you would get a notification about the events going on where are you. You can also acess this website by simply loging on to the computer everday.

How would you feel to be able to go on the interent and have one website that you can go to and find out what events are happening that night where you are? I am currently in school to become an event planner and think that this idea would not only be great for people wanting to attend the events, but also to be able to see the events from the past night. So type in your location and type of event you are interested in and let's get started.
